Digital Marketing for Startups @ SSMUM March 2015 Edition

The March 2015 edition of Startup Saturday was dedicated towards highlighting the benefits of utilising digital marketing to promote startups.

The list of speakers included stalwarts from the field such as Rakesh Kumar from Coupon Duniya and Nikhil Verma from Digital Vidya. Both these speakers managed to spark engaging rounds of Q&A at the end of their respective sessions.

Rakesh introduced the concept of a Power Pyramid – a structure that begins with choosing the right strategy and then choosing the platforms that are appropriate to execute them. Through his engaging session, he also highlighted the various kinds of strategies and tactics available for the digital medium at an entrepreneur’s disposal.

Nikhil, through his comprehensive session, covered topics right from the starting point of a digital marketing campaign – i.e. the problem that the startup is aiming to solve – to case studies of companies which utilised the digital medium with little or no spending to leverage their business. Some of the case studies included the ‘Kogi Korean BBQ Taco Truck’ story (2007) & the ‘Parle Hippo’ story.

Such was the interest generated through his session that the audience interaction spilled over to the networking session that followed.

The event saw an interesting startup called Dubroo. Built with the purpose of converting online content from english to regional languages through crowd sourcing, it managed to pleasantly surprise the audience with a fresh concept.

Apart from Dubroo, the second lightning pitch saw an early stage startup called Easyhashtag present their idea in front of the audience. Banking on the growing use of hashtags, the venture enabled brands to build campaigns around hashtags to generate awareness online.

The event was wrapped up by a presentation from the founders of Computer Society of India (CSI) which allowed entrepreneurs to seek tech – related help free of cost.

This presentation was followed by a networking session at the S.P.Jain cafeteria. Apart from refreshments, the event ended with the promise of further helping startups leverage digital marketing to grow their business.”
